The Saudi-led Arab Military Coalition fighting in Yemen has confirmed that its naval forces successfully destroyed a boat laden with explosives in the southern Red Sea on Sunday, February 23.

Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that coalition naval vessels detected and identified the boat on Sunday after it had sailed out of Western Yemen’s Hodeidah province, which is known to be controlled by the country’s Iran-backed Houthi rebel militia.

The boat was unmanned when it was found and destroyed by coalition forces.

Al-Maliki said that the use of the explosives-laden boat was an attempt by the Houthis to disrupt commercial shipping passing through the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. However, he did not indicate the probable targets of the attack.
