Yet another brilliant book from the Naval Institute Press, this is both an excellent primer for junior officers and students of strategy and an aide memoire for more senior and experienced people.
The author brings to life the writings of the world’s leading military and maritime strategy philosophers. Sun Tzu, von Clausewitz, Thucydides, Mahan, Till, Corbett, Togo, Theodore Roosevelt, Machiavelli and J. C. Wylie, among many others, are cited and explained.
Very importantly, they are also put into a contemporary context. This is right up-to-date and draws strongly on the current United States/China imbroglio in the western Pacific to illustrate.
Your reviewer, who has been reading and studying military and naval history and strategy for more than six decades, found the book illuminating.
