A ceremony was recently held to mark the laying of the keels of four new offshore terminal support tugs ordered by Smit Lamnalco.
The diesel-electric tugs will support ExxonMobil's terminal operations in Guyana under contract to Smit Lamnalco. The tugs were designed by Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd, which said the first examples are scheduled for delivery in November 2027.
When the contract was announced in September 2025, the lead vessel was expected in early 2028, with the other three to follow in subsequent quarters.
Each tug will have an LOA of 60 metres, a beam of 16.4 metres, and a total installed power of 9,680 kW. The design provides 135 tonnes of bollard pull ahead, 120 tonnes astern, and a maximum speed of 14.5 knots.
Power supply will be fully redundant, provided by four main generators. The vessels are designed to operate offshore continuously for more than 60 days and will have DP2 capability, a Fifi1 class notation, and integrated oil recovery and dispersant systems.
