Turkish yard launches new tug ordered by Tunisian state port operator
Turkish shipbuilder Med Marine has launched the first in a series of six new tugs ordered by Tunisia's Office of the Merchant Navy and Ports (Office de la Marine Marchande et des Ports; OMMP), an institution of the Tunisian Government responsible for the operation of some of the country's major ports.
The ASD tug utilises a design developed by Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. Upon completion, it will have a length of 28.2 metres, a beam of 11.5 metres, a depth of 5.49 metres, a draught of 5.4 metres, a gross tonnage of 428, and space for eight crewmembers.
Two medium-speed diesel engines will deliver a bollard pull of 60 tons and a speed of 12 knots at 80 per cent MCR.
Med Marine said the tug will have Fifi-E firefighting equipment and an aft deck spacious enough to accommodate two 10-foot containers.
All six OMMP tugs will be built at Med Marine's Eregli Shipyard facilities on Turkey's Black Sea coast.
