Saam Towage formally named the 80-tonne bollard pull tug Saam Petrel in Arica, Chile, on Tuesday, September 29.
The company said the vessel is the first tug in its Chilean fleet to meet IMO Tier III NOx emissions standards.
The tug will support ship berthing and unberthing in the region.
Designed by Robert Allan Ltd, Saam Petrel measures 24.4 metres long and 12 metres wide and can reach a maximum speed of 13 knots.
The tug is powered by two Caterpillar engines that each produce 2,350 kW at 1,800 rpm. The vessel also has FiFi1 certification.
The vessel is named for the petrel, a seabird found along the Chilean coast.
Saam announced the addition of Saam Petrel and Saam Charrán in July 2025, describing both as IMO Tier III-compliant vessels with FiFi1 capability for terminal services. At the time, Saam Petrel was heading to Arica.
Sister tug Saam Charrán was christened for service at Callao in Peru.
