Utkilen takes delivery of second 7,500DWT chemical tanker in series

The Norwegian-flagged tanker follows sister vessel Havstraum, delivered in January, and is designed for zero local-emission port stays using battery and shore power. Two more ships from the series remain to be delivered.

Norwegian shipowner Utkilen took delivery of the chemical tanker Listraum at Icdas Shipyard in Turkey on October 22.

The vessel is the second of four stainless steel-tanked newbuildings that Utkilen described as 7,500DWT ships. Havstraum, the first ship in the series, was delivered by the same yard on January 20.

Listraum has multi-fuel LNG engines and an optimised hull form. Utkilen said the tanker can use battery systems and shore power connections, enabling her to remain in port without local emissions.

The series is designed to load and discharge at high capacity, achieve faster port turnarounds and clean tanks efficiently.

The tanker is registered in the Norwegian International Ship Register and is classed by Bureau Veritas.

In 2022, Høglund Marine Solutions was contracted to supply all four ships with automation, power-management, hybrid-electric and digital systems, plus a fuel gas supply system. The ships are intended for service in the Baltic and the North Sea.

Listraum and her sisters will replace older tonnage in the Utkilen fleet.
