China's COSCO Shipping Petroleum Transportation recently took delivery of a new stainless steel chemical tanker built by Chongqing Chuandong Shipbuilding, a company under the China Shipbuilding Group.

Huayun Tongyuan has an LOA of 110.5 metres, a beam of 17.3 metres, a depth of 9.3 metres, a design draught of 6.36 metres, and a deadweight of 6,300. The propulsion delivers a speed of 13 knots and a range of 5,000 nautical miles.

Design work on the tanker was undertaken by the China Shipbuilding Group's 708 Research Institute subsidiary in compliance with China Classification Society rules.

Sirius Shipping orders tanker quartet from Chinese builder

Sweden's Sirius Shipping has awarded China Merchants Jinling Shipyard a contract for the construction of four oil/chemical tankers in a series.

The ice class 1A vessels will be designed by Swedish naval architecture firm FKAB Marine Design. Each will have an LOA of 119.9 metres, a beam of 19.4 metres, a deadweight of 7,999, and a total cargo capacity of 9,700 cubic metres.

Each tanker will also be equipped with a four-stroke main engine, a shore power connection, and a 420kWh battery pack.

Chinese shipping company Fuzhou Wuyang Refined Oil Trading (Wuyang Tanker) has placed an order for a new LNG bunkering and supply vessel to be built by Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore and Engineering (CIMC SOE).

The newbuilding contract awarded to CIMC SOE also includes an option for an additional ship from the same series. Each ship will have two IMO type C cargo tanks with a total capacity of 12,000 cubic metres. The LNG cargo in each tank will be stored at a temperature of -163 degrees Celsius.

QatarEnergy welcomes new LNG carrier to fleet

QatarEnergy recently took delivery of a new LNG carrier built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation subsidiary Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

Hlaitan is a sister ship of Rex Tillerson and Umm Ghuwailina, which were handed over to QatarEnergy earlier this year. The acquisition of the new ships is in line with QatarEnergy’s goal of operating over a hundred vessels to form what it claims will be the world’s largest single fleet of LNG carriers.

Three-tank LNG carrier design secures Lloyd's Register approval in principle

Lloyd's Register (LR) has granted an approval in principle (AIP) for GTT's new 200,000-cubic-metre LNG carrier concept, which features slow-steaming navigation and three cargo tanks instead of the traditional four.

LR said this innovative concept challenges traditional LNG carrier design norms in addition to highlighting the importance of speed in reducing vessel emissions.
