Fire-damaged CLdN Ro-Ro cleared to resume operational sailings

Published on:

A Ro-Ro vessel that caught fire while berthed at the Port of Zeebrugge in Belgium has been given clearance by local authorities to depart the port three weeks following the incident.

The CLdN-operated, Malta-registered Delphine has since left Zeebrugge for an overnight voyage to Killingholme in the UK with its maximum allowable cargo reduced by nearly a quarter to around 6,000 lane metres.

An official investigation has yet to be conducted into the fire on Delphine, which ignited on one of the ship's vehicle decks while it was at Zeebrugge with a cargo of 190 cars including 60 electric vehicles on April 16.

The fire was brought under control later that same day following the activation of the ship's onboard CO2 suppression system but was not fully extinguished until three days later.

There were no reported injuries and operations at the rest of the Port of Zeebrugge were not severely affected by the incident.

CLdN has assured that the car that was the source of the fire was not a battery electric vehicle.
