Belgian news outlet VRT reports that a fire broke out on a Ro-Ro vessel berthed at the Port of Zeebrugge in Belgium on Wednesday, April 16.

The incident on the Malta-registered Delphine occurred at around 15:00 local time on Wednesday when a blaze ignited on one of the vessel's vehicle decks.

The Ro-Ro was laden with cargo consisting of 110 electric vehicles at the time of the incident.

The vessel's captain remained on board to monitor the fire and coordinate with emergency response teams while the rest of the crew were evacuated. No serious injuries have been reported.

A port official said that the fire was eventually brought under control later in the day on Thursday following the activation of the ship's onboard CO2 suppression system.

Three tugs were also deployed to the area to render assistance.

The local fire brigade has since launched an investigation to identify the causes of the incident and the extent of damage suffered by the vessel.

Officials said that operations at the rest of the Port of Zeebrugge were not severely affected by the incident.
