Boa orders multi-purpose semi-submersible barge
Norway's Boa has signed a contract with Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co for the construction of a semi-submersible barge designed in-house by Boa.
Delivery of Boabarge 39 is expected in Q3 2026, with an option for an identical sister, Boabarge 40, at a later date.
"The new Boabarge 39, with its versatile design and unique features, is engineered to support a wide range of operations across multiple industries and to meet the highest industry standards," said Boa.
"Its capabilities make it ideal for load-out and float-off operations, heavy-load transportation, drydocking, salvage operations, and decommissioning projects.
The barges will measure in at 166 metres long, 73.38 metres in beam, and 9.15 metres deep, with a submerging capacity of 22.5 metres of water above the deck.
Heavy cargo capacity is estimated at 57,500 tonnes, with a maximum deck strength of 35 tonnes/m2 and ballast pump capacity of 22,500 m3/hr
Four removable flotation towers will be installed for enhanced stability and flexibility, and the barges will be powered by a hybrid system comprising solar, batteries, generators and shore power integration.
