Thecla Bodewes Shipyards in the Netherlands recently laid the keel of a new dry cargo vessel ordered by Faroe Islands-based Navigare Shipping.

Hav Leiti is the first in a new series of four 5,600DWT dry cargo vessels ordered by Navigare Shipping from the same builder.

Finnish naval architecture firm Deltamarin has entered into an agreement with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) for the design and engineering of upsized Shaper-class pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) for Norwegian shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

The contract includes six of the 14 vessels currently on order with Jinling Shipyard. The capacity of each vessel will be increased from 9,300 CEUs to approximately 12,100 CEUs, making them what Deltamarin claims are the largest PCTCs ever to sail.

China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Weihai has launched a new freight-only Ro-Ro vessel ordered by Swedish transport company Stena Line for operation between the UK cities of Belfast and Heysham via the Irish Sea.

Stena Connecta is the second in a new series of two Ro-Ro vessels to be fitted with hybrid propulsion systems that will include multi-fuel engines that can operate on methanol and biofuel. The ships will also feature shore power charging connections.

Chinese shipbuilder COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry recently delivered a new bulk carrier to affiliate shipowner COSCO Shipping.

As with its earlier sisters Green Munguba, Green Pecem and Green Suape, Green Qingdao is classed by China Classification Society, and registered to Liberia. The newbuild has an LOA of 225 metres, a beam of 32.26 metres, a depth of 21 metres, a draught of 14.5 metres, and a deadweight of 77,000.

Norwegian companies Skarv Shipping and Arriva Shipping have joined a collaboration that will introduce an ammonia- and electric-powered general cargo vessel to transport timber to other markets throughout Europe.

The vessel is scheduled to enter operational service in the second quarter of 2027. It will transport timber on behalf of Norwegian exporter Viken AT Market with Arriva Shipping being responsible for commercial management.
