A new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) recently delivered to Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has departed China and is en route to Brazil for its maiden commercial voyage.

The recently delivered BYD Shenzhen was acquired as part of BYD's CNY5 billion (US$700 million) program of expanding a fleet of eight owned and chartered vessels for transporting vehicle cargo to overseas markets.

A new dry cargo vessel ordered by Russia's Volga Shipping Company sailed out of the Port of Rostov-on-Don on its maiden operational voyage on Friday, April 25.

Leonid Bagrov is the second ship to be built under the Project RSD71 series of dry cargo vessels designed by local naval architecture firm Marine Engineering Bureau. Like series lead ship Konstruktor Egorov, which sailed on its own maiden voyage last month, It is capable of navigating both inland and offshore waters.

Russia's V.I. Lenin Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard began construction of a new multi-purpose cargo vessel on Wednesday, April 23.

The vessel will be the fourth in the Project RSD81 series, six examples of which will be built for local shipowner State Transport Leasing Company (STLC).

China's SPDB Financial Leasing took delivery of a new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) on Monday, April 21.

Hanjiangkou ("Hanjiang Estuary") is the final ship in a series of three PCTCs built by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI). The first two ships in the series, Peony Leader and Ganjiangkou, were delivered to CITIC Financial Leasing in 2024.

Chinese firm to design deck carrier for NYK subsidiary

China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute has been selected to design a new deck cargo vessel for NYK Bulk and Projects Carriers, a subsidiary of Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK).

Construction will be undertaken by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. The vessel will be classed by NK and will sail under the flag of Panama.

With a deadweight of 33,000, the vessel will be a highly customised, ocean-going heavy deck carrier. Its wide deck will be capable of accommodating various large and heavy cargo between international ports.

The design will be built with improved wind and wave resistance while an electric propulsion system, coupled with an air lubrication system, will help reduce environmental impact during long-distance transits.
