Oman-based Asyad Shipping has taken delivery of Ain Sahlnoot, the first of two second-hand baby-Capesize dry bulk carriers acquired under an agreement finalised earlier this year.

The second vessel, Ain Hamran, is scheduled for delivery the following week.

Both vessels will be employed on three-year time-charter contracts with an international dry bulk operator following delivery.

The purchase agreement for the pair was signed on May 21 for a total consideration of approximately OMR29.2 million ($75.8 million).

Built in 2020 and 2021 respectively, Ain Sahlnoot and Ain Hamran each have a deadweight capacity of 100,309 tonnes.

Chief Executive Officer Dr Ibrahim Al-Nadhairi said the acquisitions put the company's investment strategy into action.

“Their immediate deployment on three-year time charter contracts will strengthen our dry bulk performance and provide clear commercial visibility,” Al-Nadhairi said.

Asyad currently operates a fleet of approximately 90 vessels.
