Taiwan's Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has confirmed plans to acquire a fleet of five newbuild container vessels that will be powered by LNG dual-fuel engines.
Yang Ming said the purchase of the 15,000TEU vessels will make it the first shipping company in Taiwan to own LNG-powered containerships.
The company added that the operation of the LNG-fueled vessels will result in GHG emissions reduction of around 20 per cent compared to vessels that are powered by traditional fuel oil.
