Pertamina International takes delivery of Japanese-built VLCC

Indonesia’s Pertamina International Shipping recently took delivery of a new very large crude carrier (VLCC) from Yokohama-based Japan Marine United (JMU).

Named Pertamina Prime, the Malaccamax newbuild has an LOA of 330 metres, a beam of 60 metres, a draught of 21.58 metres, a deadweight of 301,781 tonnes, and space for 30 crewmembers. Power is provided by one MAN B&W 7G80ME-C9.5-HP electronically-controlled diesel engine.

Equipment includes a SOx scrubber and an SCR system that ensures compliance with IMO Tier III NOx regulations. To further improve operating efficiency, a large-diameter propeller has been fitted while low-friction paint was used on the hull.

The vessel is classed by ABS and is sailing under the Panamanian flag.

Pertamina Prime is a near identical sister of Pertamina Pride, which was delivered by JMU earlier this year.
