Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a proposal by the country’s Ministry of Defence to build a new naval supply and maintenance hub in Sudan’s main port on the Red Sea.

The proposed facility in Port Sudan will be used to provide maintenance support for Russian Navy ships conducting deployments in the Indian Ocean region.

The fleet logistics hub will be able to house around 300 personnel.
