A new container terminal at the Port of Pontianak in Indonesia’s West Kalimantan province was inaugurated on Tuesday, August 9.

The Pontianak Kijing Terminal was officially opened for use in a ceremony with Indonesian President Joko Widodo as guest of honour.

Mr Widodo said the new facility will help enhance the competitiveness of West Kalimantan, a key producer of crude palm oil, bauxite, and other essential resources.

Construction of the container terminal began in 2016 and was completed in May of this year. The facility’s rated capacity is 500,000 TEUs.
