Hapag-Lloyd has placed a US$1 billion order for six ultra large container vessels (ULCVs) from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).

The vessels will each have LNG dual-fuel engines and capacity for over 23,500 TEUs. These will be deployed on Hapag-Lloyd’s Europe-Far East routes as part of THE Alliance.

Delivery of all six vessels will be between April and December 2023.
