Denmark orders more naval strike missiles in $42m deal

The undisclosed number of missiles will be bought through Norway's defence materiel agency, extending a 2025 agreement that re-armed Danish frigates and preceded a new shore-based battery.

Kongsberg said on Monday, October 19, that it had signed a contract worth about NOK400 million ($42 million) to supply Denmark with additional naval strike missiles (NSM). The number of missiles has not been disclosed.

The purchase is an intergovernmental sale involving the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (FMA) and Denmark's procurement agency, DALO.

FMA has signed a contract amendment with Kongsberg for production and delivery of the missiles. The agency described the deal as an extension of the agreement between the two countries concluded in 2025.

The Danish agency said the Norwegian agency negotiated the supplier contract on Denmark's behalf, and that the order increases the quantity of missiles bought under the 2025 acquisition for the navy.

The precision missiles can be used against ships and land targets, and the same missile arms Denmark's new coastal missile systems.

"By using the same procurement model and working with the same supplier, we can benefit from the cooperation already established and ensure an efficient process," said Captain Steen Balslev, head of the agency's maritime division.

In March 2025, Kongsberg won a NOK2.1 billion contract to supply NSMs to replace Harpoon missiles on the Royal Danish Navy's Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates, with deliveries scheduled for 2025–2030.

Denmark followed that in December 2025 with a shore-based NSM system worth more than €100 million. The mobile system will be based at Flådestation Korsør. Once fully established, the coastal missile units are expected to employ up to about 100 personnel, including conscripts.
