Philippine Navy commissions new corvette, attack craft
The Philippine Navy commissioned two of its newest ships in a joint ceremony at Naval Base Subic Bay on Tuesday, May 20.
The commissioning ceremony for the guided-missile corvette BRP Miguel Malvar (pictured) and the fast attack interdiction craft (FAIC) BRP Albert Majini was attended by Philippine President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr as guest of honour and coincided with the navy's 127th founding anniversary.
Keel laid for Russian Navy's 14th Alexandrit-class minesweeper
The Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant of Russia's state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation laid the keel of a new Project 12700 mine countermeasures (MCM) vessel at its Saint Petersburg facilities on Friday, May 16.
The future Sergey Preminin will be the 14th in the Project 12700 series, otherwise known as the Alexandrit-class. The MCM vessel's namesake is Sergei Anatolyevich Preminin, a Soviet Navy sailor who was posthumously awarded the Hero of the Russian Federation decoration.
Dutch yard to build rescue boat for German Life-Saving Society
Netherlands-based Habbeke Shipyard has been selected by the German Life-Saving Society (Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft; DLRG) for the construction of a new rescue boat.
The vessel will be powered by Steyr inboard diesel engines driving Hamilton waterjets. Hamilton will also provide a remote control console that will allow the boat to be operated from the aft deck in addition to the main helm station.
The DLRG vessel will feature closed-cell foam fendering to protect the hull from impact damage.
German Navy christens new Braunschweig-class corvette
The German Navy has formally named its newest Braunschweig-class corvette in a ceremony in Hamburg.
The future Augsburg honours the city of the same name in the state of Bavaria. The vessel was constructed by a consortium led by local defence shipbuilder the NVL Group and is the ninth corvette in the Braunschweig-class.
Keel laying of second Pohjanmaa-class corvette initiated at Rauma shipyard
The second multi-purpose corvette in the Squadron 2020 project had her keel laid last week at Finland's Rauma Shipyard.
The production of the second corvette was started eight weeks ahead of schedule to ensure a sufficiently long production period as well as to utilise the experience gained with the first vessel.
