New hospital ship for Russian inland waters nearing completion
Construction is nearly completed on a new hospital ship that will serve the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug in west-central Russia.
Classed by the Russian Classification Society (RKO), the completed vessel will have a length of 65 metres, a beam of 10.8 metres, a draught of only 1.3 metres, a depth of 3.2 metres, a displacement of 650 tonnes, and space for 12 crewmembers, 25 medical personnel and up to 50 patients.
Washington builder tapped for new enforcement boat for New Mexico State Parks
Tacoma, Washington-based boatbuilder Silverback Marine has been selected for the construction of a new law enforcement boat for operation by New Mexico State Parks' Rangers division.
The 21-foot (6.4-metre) boat will be designed by Swedish engineering firm PETESTEP and will feature a hull form featuring angled deflectors instead of steps. The deflectors will help significantly reduce slamming compared to a traditional monohull, thus resulting in a more comfortable ride and greater fuel efficiency.
German builder unveils 90m offshore patrol vessel design
German shipbuilder Fassmer recently unveiled a new design of offshore patrol vessel (OPV) measuring over 90 metres long.
The OPV will be a further development of Fassmer's 86-metre patrol vessel design, three examples of which in operation the German Federal Police as the Potsdam-class.
First steel cut for second Miecznik-class frigate for Polish Navy
Polish shipbuilder PGZ Stocznia Wojenna (PGZ SW) has cut the first steel to be used in the construction of the second Miecznik-class frigate ordered by the Polish Navy.
PGZ SW is building three Miecznik-class frigates in collaboration with Poland's Remontowa Shipbuilding and defence technology firms the Babcock International Group, Thales, and MBDA.
Russian Navy commissions ninth Alexandrit-class minesweeper
The Russian Navy commissioned its newest Project 12700 mine countermeasures (MCM) vessel in a ceremony on Wednesday, May 7.
Afanasy Ivannikov is the ninth MCM vessel under Project 12700, otherwise known as the Alexandrit-class. United Shipbuilding Corporation's Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau was responsible for the design work while construction took place at Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant's facilities in Saint Petersburg.
