German shipbuilder Fassmer recently unveiled a new design of offshore patrol vessel (OPV) measuring over 90 metres long.

The OPV will be a further development of Fassmer's 86-metre patrol vessel design, three examples of which in operation the German Federal Police as the Potsdam-class.

The 90-metre OPV will be fitted with diesel engines that will deliver a top speed of 24 knots as well as dual bow thrusters.

The vessel will also feature weapons mounts for a 76mm naval gun at the bow and port and starboard 30mm remotely controlled autocannons placed amidships. Fassmer said the weapons fitout will enable the vessel to engage an assortment of targets including small drones.

The ship's sensors will meanwhile include a Saab AESA radar for short-range detection of air and surface targets, a fire control radar, and navigation radars. An internal bay located just forward of the helicopter deck can be fitted with four 20-foot containers housing mission-specific modules.

The OPV will also be capable of deploying rigid inflatable boats and small unmanned craft such as remotely operated vehicles.
