UK-Saudi partnership launch new range of emergency response boats
UK naval architecture firm Walker Marine Design and Saudi boatbuilder Arabian Marine Company have introduced a new range of 16-metre long emergency response vessels.
The vessels will have aluminium hulls and can be configured to accommodate hybrid propulsion systems and autonomous navigation technology.
The vessels can also be customised to serve specific functions such as firefighting, search and rescue (SAR), medical evacuation, and disaster response.
Turkish builder delivers new naval attack craft to Iraq
Turkey's ARES Shipyard recently handed over three fast attack craft to the Iraqi Naval Forces.
The vessels will be used for patrol, surveillance, and protection of critical infrastructure. The armament on each vessel consists of two manually operated 12.7mm machine guns and a remote controlled weapon station that can house a 12.7mm machine gun, a 7.62mm machine gun, or a 40mm grenade launcher.
Two future Turkish Navy frigates hit the water
Turkey's Anadolu Shipyard and Sedef Shipyard recently floated out two new guided-missile frigates slated for the Turkish Navy.
The future TCG Izmir and the future TCG Izmit are the second and third frigates in the locally built Istif-class. Class lead ship TCG Istanbul was built by Istanbul Naval Shipyard, though all frigates in the Istif-class were designed by STM Defence.
UAE Navy's newest offshore patrol vessel floated out
UAE company the EDGE Group, via its Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) division, launched a new offshore patrol vessel (OPV) in a ceremony on Tuesday, January 14.
The OPV is the lead ship of the Falaj 3-class, four examples of which will be built by ADSB for the UAE Navy. Singapore-based ST Engineering is providing the basic, detail design, and production design of the vessels as well as technical assistance.
Indian Navy takes delivery of sixth Kalvari-class submarine
The Indian Navy took delivery of its newest diesel-electric submarine from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) in a ceremony at MDL's Mumbai facilities on Thursday, January 9.
INS Vaghsheer is the sixth submarine in the Kalvari-class, which are variants of the Scorpene-class boats developed by French defence shipbuilder the Naval Group for export customers.
Construction begins on four new surface ships for Peruvian Navy
South Korean HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Peruvian state-owned shipbuilder SIMA recently held a ceremony marking the start of construction of four new surface ships ordered by the Peruvian Navy.
The ceremony held on Friday, January 10, which also had Peruvian President Dina Boluarte as guest of honour, was for the start of the construction of a frigate, an offshore patrol vessel (OPV), and two landing craft.
14th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship Harrisburg christened at Ingalls Shipbuilding
HII christened San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock Harrisburg (LPD 30) on Staurdau at the company’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division.
LPD 30 will be the US Navy’s 14th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship and the first Flight II in the class. When delivered, the ship will support expeditionary warfare, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.
US Navy names two future ocean surveillance ships
US Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro has confirmed that the US Navy's T-AGOS ocean surveillance ships will be known as the Explorer-class, with the first two ships in the class to be named USNS Don Walsh and USNS Victor Vescovo, respectively.
Operated by the Military Sealift Command, the Explorer-class will support the navy’s anti-submarine warfare operations.
