Fincantieri Marine Group opens new office in Norway
The Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG), the US-based subsidiary of Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, has opened a new office in the Grünerløkka neighborhood of Oslo, Norway.
The opening of the new office will enhance communication with government and industry partners as the Royal Norwegian Navy prepares to select a replacement for its ageing Fridtjof Nansen-class frigates.
The Norwegian Government is considering several types of frigates from various NATO allies, including the United States.
FMG oversees Fincantieri Marinette Marine, which is building the US Navy’s new Constellation-class guided-missile frigates.
The Constellation-class ships are variants of the FREMM frigates designed and built jointly by Fincantieri and French defence shipbuilder the Naval Group for the Italian and French Navies as well as export customers.
FMG's lead on the Norway frigate opportunity is Dave Forster, Vice President of Business Development. As Norway reviews the options, Forster wanted to establish a liaison space where FMG and Fincantieri subsidiary Vard can collaborate and meet with potential supply chain partners in Norway.
"As Norway looks to bolster its international strategic partnerships and reconstitute its primary naval vessels with a modern, survivable class of ships, we believe that Constellation-class frigates, built in Norway, by and for Norwegians, offer a unique chance to own the best solution," said Forster.
