US Coast Guard crews from Station San Francisco responded to a report of a vessel fire with two people on board near the breakwater at Berkeley Marina on Monday afternoon. The vessel's crew extinguished the fire, and the boat was safely escorted back to the marina with no reported injuries or pollution.
Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders received a distress call at approximately 15:00 on August 11 from a mariner reporting his vessel was on fire. A boat crew from Station San Francisco was diverted to the scene, and an urgent marine information broadcast was issued to other mariners in the area. The Berkeley Fire Department also launched a fire boat to assist in the response.
Upon arriving on scene, the Coast Guard boat crew confirmed that the fire had been extinguished by the vessel's crew. They also determined that the boat's starboard engine was inoperable, though its port engine remained functional.
The Coast Guard crew then escorted the vessel back to the Berkeley marina. The two individuals on board were reported to be uninjured, and there were no signs of pollution resulting from the incident.
