During April 14 to 20, 2020, four incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia were reported to the Information Sharing Centre (ISC) of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP).
Of the four incidents, one was a piracy incident that occurred on board a very large crude carrier (VLCC) while underway in the South China Sea.
The three incidents of armed robbery against ships were: an incident that occurred on board a containership while anchored at Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) Breakwater, Philippines; an incident that occurred on board a bulk carrier while underway in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait; and an incident on a chemical tanker while anchored off Alang Anchorage, India.
No crew injuries were reported in any of the four incidents though the perpetrators in one of the boardings were confirmed to be armed.
