One person was killed after a fire ignited on a tug at a shipyard in Indonesia's Central Kalimantan province on Saturday, March 28.
The tug Batara VII was at Nusantara Docking Sejahtera's facilities in East Kotawaringin Regency when the blaze ignited in the late afternoon of Saturday (local time).
Residents of some nearby villages told local media that they heard several explosions before they saw flames and smoke rising from the shipyard, which sits on the banks of the Mentaya River.
A local official said the fire was brought under control hours later, allowing personnel from search and rescue organisation Basarnas and other agencies to board the tug to determine whether anyone had become trapped on board.
The deceased victim's charred remains were found in one of the onboard compartments following the conclusion of firefighting operations. Authorities are still working to confirm his identity.
Another person who was on the tug when the incident occurred was able to escape with only minor injuries while a third individual remains unaccounted for, officials said.
The incident is still under investigation.
