Firefighters extinguished a wheelhouse fire aboard Lerøy’s 15-metre fish farm work catamaran Nuen at Torangsvåg in Austevoll, Norway, on Monday evening, September 28.
All personnel had evacuated the vessel before fire crews sent smoke divers aboard to investigate smoke coming from the wheelhouse. The workboat was alongside the quay.
“No flames have been observed,” Børre Brekkvassmo, a duty officer at the 110 emergency dispatch centre, told Bergens Tidende shortly before 21:00.
At 21:07, Vest Police District said officers were at the quay with firefighters following a report of smoke from a workboat. Police said no one was believed to be aboard at that point.
Fire service duty officer Øyvind Bruntveit told Marsteinen that a small fire had started in a shaft in the wheelhouse. “There is no danger to the boats around it,” he said.
Police confirmed at 21:56 that the wheelhouse fire had been extinguished.
Nuen was built by Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted and delivered to Lerøy Vest in 2013.
