Two OSV crew injured following collision with wind turbine in Dutch North Sea

Published on:

Two people suffered injuries after an offshore support vessel (OSV) struck an offshore wind turbine in the North Sea off the Dutch village of Bergen Aan Zee on Sunday, April 20.

The incident involving the OSV Glomar Venture occurred some 24 kilometres off the coast at around 07:00 local time on Sunday.

Volunteer marine rescue organisation Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij; KNRM) deployed three rescue boats to the area to render assistance after it received a request for a medical evacuation.

Six of the OSV's crew were later brought on board two KNRM boats. The two injured crewmembers were transferred to another boat, which then brought them to Den Helder where an ambulance team was on standby.

Local media reported that the injured individuals were still recuperating in hospital as of 14:30 on Monday, April 21.

Investigators have been working to determine the probable causes of the incident as well as the extent of the damage suffered by the OSV and the wind turbine.
