One killed after tour boat capsizes off Bali, Indonesia
Singapore news outlet The Straits Times reports that one person was killed while two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a boat with 16 people on board capsized off Indonesia's famed resort island of Bali on Friday, March 21.
The tour boat Sea Dragon 2 was en route to Nusa Penida Island near Bali when it was struck by large waves, causing it to overturn with only the bottom of its hull remaining above the surface, on the morning (local time) of Friday.
A nearby Good Samaritan boat later arrived on-scene and pulled all 16 of the tour boat's occupants out of the water.
A local police official said that at least three passengers were brought to hospital. Tragically, one of these individuals, who has been identified as an Australian woman, was later pronounced deceased.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that two of the injured passengers were also Australian nationals and that it is assisting the family of the deceased victim.
The boat was carrying 11 Australian tourists when the incident occurred.
