Fire ignites on cruise ship while en route to Nova Scotia, Canada

Published on:

A fire ignited on board a cruise ship while it was en route to Nova Scotia in Canada on Tuesday, July 15.

The Bermuda-registered, Princess Cruises-owned Island Princess had earlier departed New York City and was heading to Halifax for its first port call on its present itinerary when the blaze erupted in a galley on deck 12 on the morning (local time) of Tuesday.

The crew then sounded a general alert advising passengers to head immediately to muster stations as firefighting efforts were underway.

The ship's captain issued an "all clear" announcement less than an hour later after the fire was finally extinguished.

The captain has also assured that the passengers are not in any immediate danger.

Island Princess' AIS track as of Thursday, July 17, shows that the ship had arrived in Halifax and is en route to Sydney in Nova Scotia. It will then visit four ports in Greenland before heading back to New York City on August 1.
