Twenty-two people have gone missing after a foreign-flagged commercial ship sank off India's east coast on Saturday, August 22.
The Indian Coast Guard said the Panama-registered bulk carrier Ocean Winner sank while underway approximately 240 nautical miles off the Port of Paradip.
The 72,928DWT ship had earlier departed Paradip and was en route to Singapore with over 71,000 tonnes of iron ore and a 24-strong crew consisting of one Bangladeshi, three Burmese, and 20 Chinese nationals.
Only two survivors have so far been recorded among Ocean Winner's crew. Their nationalities have not been disclosed.
The coast guard said the two individuals were found floating in separate liferafts and were rescued by the crew of the Marshall Islands-flagged crude oil tanker Aisopos.
Indian Coast Guard assets that have been deployed in the ongoing search for the 22 missing sailors include the Vikram-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) ICGS Varad, the Vishwast-class OPV ICGS Vijit, and the fast patrol vessel ICGS Anmol.
The Indian Navy is also assisting in the search effort.
Ocean Winner is the only listed vessel owned and commercially managed by Ocean Winner Shipping based in Fuzhou, China.
