Poland's Remontowa Shipbuilding has been awarded a contract by the Polish Armaments Group (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa; PGZ) for the construction of a new rescue vessel that will be operated by the Polish Navy.

Construction of the vessel, which will be used primarily to rescue the crews of distressed submarines, will commence in 2025 and is scheduled to be completed by 2029. The contract awarded by the PGZ to Remontowa Shipbuilding has a value of approximately PLN1 billion (US$240 million).

The acquisition of the rescue vessel is being conducted simultaneously with the ORKA Project, which seeks to introduce a new class of diesel-electric submarines into service with the Polish Navy.

Upon completion, the new rescue vessel will have an LOA of approximately 96 metres, a beam of approximately 19 metres, a maximum displacement of 6,500 tonnes, and accommodation for 100 crewmembers and up to nine additional personnel. The propulsion will deliver a maximum speed of 16 knots and a range of approximately 6,000 nautical miles.
