Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri recently held a steel-cutting ceremony at its Marghera shipyard near Venice to mark the start of construction of a new luxury cruise ship slated for Miami-based Oceania Cruises.
Oceania Sonata will be the first ship in a new series ordered for Oceania Cruises by parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH). The ship is scheduled to enter service in 2027 while sister ship Oceania Arietta will follow in 2029.
Oceania Sonata will be the ninth ship in the Oceania Cruises fleet. Fincantieri said the ship will also be, "the most spacious and amenity-rich in the fleet."
The series will consist of four ships, orders for which were placed in 2024. The other two vessels will be will be delivered to Regent Seven Seas Cruises, another wholly owned subsidiary of NCLH.
The new class of ships will feature a number of improvements over an earlier class that was also built by Fincantieri for Oceania Cruises.
