New crewboats have been delivered to owners in the UK and South Korea as construction is underway on a rock installation vessel for operation in the US and a support and maintenance platform designed for European waters.

A new subsea rock installation (SRI) vessel ordered by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock (GLDD) was launched into the water at Hanwha Philly Shipyard in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, July 23.

Acadia is engineered to transport and precisely install up to 20,000 tonne of rock on the seabed.

A keel-laying ceremony was held last week for Bibby Marine's first hybrid-electric commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) at the Armon Shipyard in Vigo, Spain. The event marked the official start of construction for the newbuild.

The vessel will combine methanol engines and battery technology to provide what the company describes as zero local emission support to offshore wind farms. Once operational in 2027, the 6,700-gross-tonne vessel will accommodate up to 120 personnel for offshore deployments lasting up to 30 days.

New windfarm crewboat delivered to South Korean shipyard Yeosu Ocean

South Korean shipyard Yeosu Ocean has taken delivery of a new catamaran crewboat ordered from Strategic Marine of Singapore.

Designed by BMT, the 27-metre Ventus Camellia features a large asymmetric superstructure ensuring ample interior space for a range of operational requirements. Once in service, it will transport technicians to and from offshore wind farms.

Van Oord orders subsea rock installation vessels

Van Oord has placed an order for two subsea rock installation vessels in a series for delivery between 2028 and 2029 following completion at Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore in China.

The vessels will each be capable of operating on methanol and biofuel in addition to being able to load up to 35,000 tonnes. They will also feature DP2 systems to enable them to maintain precise positioning despite challenging conditions such as waves, wind and currents.

UK-based offshore wind crew transfer provider Tidal Transit formally named its newest crewboat during a ceremony in Great Yarmouth on Friday, July 18.

Imogen Rose belongs to the same series of crewboats as Anthea Luna, which was handed over to Tidal Transit earlier this year.
