North Star takes delivery of second hybrid CSOV in series
UK operator North Star has taken delivery of a new commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) built by Vard.
Grampian Eagle is the second in a series of hybrid CSOVs ordered by North Star from Vard.
As with its earlier sister vessel Grampian Kestrel, the newbuild utilises a design that was developed by Vard Design specifically for North Star. The CSOV features an optimised hull form and is fitted with a hybrid propulsion system that can be configured to run on methanol fuel in the future to further reduce emissions.
The CSOV has a length of 95 metres, a beam of 19.5 metres, and single cabin accommodation for up to 111 windfarm technicians.
Vard said Grampian Eagle's delivery came less than four months after the CSOV's hull arrived in Norway for final outfitting. The hull was constructed at Vard Shipyards Romania.
North Star said both CSOVs have achieved Lloyd’s Register’s "cyber resilience" classification in line with mandatory IACS implemented for all newbuilds from 1 July 2024.
