Boskalis has secured a contract to install inter-array cables for Phase 1 of the Zeevonk offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.

The company announced the award from Zeevonk, the joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, on October 1. Boskalis places the award in its €50 million to €150 million contract category.

The scope covers transport and installation of about 149 kilometres of 66 kV cables linking 69 turbines. The cables will be transported from the manufacturing facility in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, to the wind farm.

The contract also includes cable testing and terminations, fitting cable protection systems, surveys and seabed intervention.

Boskalis plans to deploy its cable-laying vessel BOKA Ocean for cable transport and installation. One of the company’s subsea rock installation vessels will undertake the seabed intervention work.

Engineering is expected to begin shortly, with offshore cable installation scheduled for 2029. The developers plan for Phase 1 to enter commercial operation that year with about one GW of capacity. The full development is planned to have about two GW of installed wind capacity across two phases.

In July, the developers awarded DEME the foundation installation contract. The work covers moving and installing 69 monopile foundations, along with scour protection. Offshore work is due to begin in 2028.
