The Port of Turku in Finland has contracted Oteran to rebuild the S2 quay at its new Fregatti ferry terminal, with completion scheduled for 2028.
Work began at the turn of September and October, with Oteran acting as main contractor.
S2 is an existing quay currently used by Tallink Silja. Following the rebuild, it will primarily serve Viking Line, which is scheduled to move its operations to Fregatti once the quay is completed.
The contract covers renovation along 220 metres of quay. The new structure will stand on steel tube piles measuring approximately 45 to 50 metres in length, with a combined piling length of nearly 40 kilometres.
Around 15,000 cubic metres of concrete will be cast in situ. Piling will be carried out both from land and from a barge.
The passenger and vehicle access structures form a design-and-build component of the contract. They will comprise a passenger walkway, three passenger boarding bridges, a main deck ramp, and a side ramp.
The automated mooring installation now operating at Viking Line's existing quay will be relocated to S2.
Port of Turku CEO Minna Pirkkanen said the works must be coordinated with daily passenger and freight traffic in the operating harbour.
Oteran has been carrying out infrastructure works across the 14-hectare joint terminal yard since September 2025.
S2 forms part of Ferry Terminal Turku, a €172 million (US$193 million) port area renewal that will bring Tallink Silja and Viking Line services into one terminal.
The Fregatti building is due to enter use in March 2027. Tallink Silja will transfer to the S1 pier at the same time.
S1 was handed over to the port on June 15.
