GEAR | LTO batteries selected for Rotterdam’s newest electric ferries

PASSENGER VESSEL WEEK

Echandia Marine has been awarded a contract by Damen Shipyards Group for the supply of new lithium-titanium-oxide (LTO) batteries for installation on three electric ferries that will be operated by Dutch company Waterbus Rotterdam.

The Echandia LTO batteries are air-cooled and require no active measures for water cooling or fire suppression, thus lowering the risk of thermal runaway.

The batteries are also equipped for fast charging at regular intervals to provide uninterrupted service between the cities of Dordrecht, Zwijndrecht, and Papendrecht.
