GE Marine has been awarded a contract by Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions to provide LM2500 marine gas turbines to be installed on four of the Finnish Navy’s new Pohjanmaa-class multi-purpose corvettes.

Each 3,900-tonne corvette will feature one LM2500 gas turbine in a combined diesel-electric and gas (CODLAG) turbine configuration to reach speeds in excess of 26 knots.

Construction of the corvettes by Rauma is slated to begin in 2022. All four ships are expected to be delivered to the Finnish Navy by 2026 and will be fully operational in 2028.
