Cawthron Institute to receive NZ$250,000 government support for aquaculture research

FISHING/AQUACULTURE WEEK

The government of New Zealand will provide NZ$250,000 (US$180,000) in funds to local independent science organisation Cawthron Institute to support a collaborative research project that will benefit the Maori aquaculture industry.

Cawthron said the project seeks to help aquaculture operators in the Waiariki electorate in the northeast in maximising the potential and sustainability of their fisheries assets.

The project commenced earlier this month and will run for approximately two years. The institute will initially focus within Waiariki and will later apply its learnings to support Maori operators in other parts of the country.
