Greek owner Akrotiri Tankers has reportedly ordered a second 157,000DWT Suezmax tanker from China’s New Times Shipbuilding for a cost of approximately US$84.4 million.
Shipbroker Banchero Costa reported the contract in its latest newbuilding market report, covering September 21 to 28. Delivery is scheduled for June 2029, and the order brings Akrotiri’s Suezmax programme at the yard to two vessels.
Akrotiri’s first Suezmax order at New Times was reported in April 2026. Greek shipbuilding market sources put the price of that 157,000DWT vessel at around US$82 million, with delivery also expected in 2029.
The April contract has been described as Akrotiri’s entry into the Suezmax segment.
The company’s first reported newbuilding contract at New Times dates to November 2025, when it ordered two 75,000DWT LR1 product tankers. Both vessels were expected to be delivered by the end of 2028.
New Times’ recent Suezmax deliveries include the 155,500DWT Aristoklis, built for the Capital Maritime Group via Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corporation.
