VESSEL REVIEW | Aristoklis – Dual-fuel Suezmax crude tanker joins Capital Maritime fleet

Greek shipping company the Capital Maritime Group, via its Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corporation business unit, has taken delivery of a new Suezmax crude oil tanker from New Times Shipbuilding of China.

Aristoklis has an LOA of 274.39 metres (900.23 feet), a moulded beam of 48 metres (160 feet), a depth of 23.2 metres (76.1 feet), a deadweight of 155,500, a gross tonnage of 84,648, and 12 cargo tanks with a combined capacity of 167,850 cubic metres (36.9 million gallons).

The cargo tanks have centrifugal pumps, epoxy bottom coatings, and aluminised-brass heating coils. Two cranes with SWLs of 20 tonnes are also fitted.

LNG propulsion with scrubbers for reduced emissions

The ship is powered by a Hyundai-MAN B&W 6G70ME C10.5-GI dual-fuel engine that produces 13,500 kW (18,100 hp) and drives a fixed-pitch propeller. Three Yanmar 6EY22ALWS 1,250kW generators meanwhile supply the electricity requirements of all onboard systems.

To generate reduced emissions during navigation, the main engine can also run on LNG, which is supplied by two dedicated tanks installed on the main deck. An exhaust gas aftertreatment system is installed to further reduce the ship’s SOx emissions.

Shore power connection capability permitting port stays on US west coast

The ship also features a shore power connection, allowing her to draw electricity directly from the local grid during port stays. The incorporation of shore power capability was completed in compliance with the requirements of the California Air Resources Board, thus allowing the ship to be integrated with onshore power infrastructure at the Port of Long Beach (POLB).

All five of Aristoklis’ sisters will also be compatible with POLB’s onshore power infrastructure.

Aristoklis is registered to the Marshall Islands and classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR). The ship satisfies LR’s ice class 1C and cyber security notations.
