Udupi Cochin Shipyard in India launched a new general cargo vessel ordered by Norwegian shortsea operator Wilson.

Wilson Energy I is the first in a series of eight ships being built to a design by Dutch naval architecture firm Conoship International. She is also the first of the larger vessels in Wilson's 14-ship newbuilding programme with the yard, all six of the smaller ships having already been delivered.

The vessel will now undergo outfitting at the quay, including interior installations, electrical hookups and commissioning of primary machinery. Conoship said sea trials would follow later this year ahead of a planned delivery in December.

Wilson Energy I has an LOA of 99.99 metres and a deadweight of approximately 6,375. Her single box-shaped hold will offers 8,956 cubic metres of capacity for dry bulk, breakbulk, and project cargo.

Propulsion will be diesel-electric, combined with hull lines optimised for low resistance. Conoship said this arrangement will reduce fuel consumption and emissions compared with existing vessels in the segment.
