Wallenius Wilhelmsen has taken delivery of the pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Royal Tern from China's CMHI Jinling for operation by its subsidiary EUKOR.

The 87,700GT, 9,300CEU vessel is the second in a series of seven methanol dual-fuel ships ordered at the yard, with deliveries scheduled through the fourth quarter of 2027.

The newbuild followed lead ship Arctic Tern, which was delivered in July.

CMHI Jinling is also building seven larger 11,700CEU, LNG dual-fuel PCTCs of 108,900 GT for delivery through the fourth quarter of 2028. Wallenius Wilhelmsen is negotiating for at least four additional 11,700CEU newbuildings.

The Marshall Islands-flagged Royal Tern has a length of 228 metres, a beam of 38 metres, a deadweight of 15,750, and a service speed of 17.4 knots.

Finnish naval architecture firm Deltamarin carried out the concept and contract design for the owner and the basic and detail design for the shipyard.

The vessel is designed for later conversion to ammonia and has 12 cargo decks, four of which are movable. The stern ramp has a safe working load of up to 480 tonnes.

Other features include hull air lubrication, a battery system, shore power capability, and fire suppression systems covering two cargo fire zones.
