China's COSCO Shipping, through its COSCO Shipping Special Transport subsidiary, and CITIC Financial Leasing took delivery of a new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) on Monday, April 28.
Hanwukou is the second PCTC in a series to be built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding to be built for shipowner CITIC Financial Leasing.
The newbuild has an LOA of 199.99 metres, a beam of 38 metres, a draught of 9.7 metres at full load, and a depth of 14.8 metres, which are similar dimensions to those of an earlier series of PCTCs acquired by CITIC. However, the new car carrier can transport up to 8,600 CEUs whereas the earlier ships can each transport up to 7,000 vehicles.
The vehicle cargo that can be carried on Hanwukou may also include electric vehicles, buses, trailers, and construction and engineering vehicles.
Power is provided by a dual-fuel propulsion system that can also run on LNG. When operating on LNG, the PCTC will emit up to 27 per cent less CO2 and significantly reduced volumes of SOx and NOx compared to ships that run on traditional fuels.
