Recent deliveries include a combination carrier for a Norwegian operator plus a car carrier and a bulker for separate owners in Italy. A Russian yard has begun construction of a new series of unified ships that can be adapted to accommodate various cargo types. Lastly, a Chinese yard has secured bulker orders from a Far East customer.
United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) cut steel for the first vessel based on its unified vessel platform, Platform No. 1, at Krasnoye Sormovo in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, on September 28.
USC chief executive Andrey Puchkov told Interfax that construction of the lead ship should be completed in 2027. He said USC has a firm order for 10 vessels based on the platform and an option for another 75.
USC designed the platform for a series of river-sea cargo vessels, including dry cargo ships and tankers. Container carriers are also planned.
Italian shipowner Visentini Giovanni Trasporti Fluviomarittimi has taken delivery of the 40,800DWT Handymax bulk carrier V Cinque from Chinese shipbuilder Dajin Heavy Industry.
The vessel, delivered on Monday, September 21, is the sister ship of V Aldo (pictured), which entered service in 2025. V Cinque was originally contracted for slightly less than US$30 million.
V Cinque was based on a latest-generation design developed by Shanghai Bestway Marine Engineering Design. Alessandro Visentini, son of company owner Giovanni Visentini, said that the ship’s hull form and cargo spaces had been optimised to provide high cargo capacity and versatility within the Handymax segment.
The Grimaldi Group took delivery of the 9,800CEU pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Grande Egitto from China Merchants Heavy Industry on Monday, September 21.
The 95,534GT ship is Grimaldi’s 14th vessel with RINA’s ammonia ready notation. At 220 metres long and 38 metres wide, it shares the distinction of being the group’s largest car carrier with sister vessel Grande Pacifico, which was delivered in August.
Grande Egitto will begin its maiden voyage next week on Grimaldi’s Asia–East Africa service. The vessel is scheduled to load 4,150 cars and 6,200 lane metres of rolling cargo at Taicang in China and Yokohama and Nagoya in Japan.
Jinhui Holdings has agreed to acquire two bulk carriers from Chinese shipbuilder Jiangmen Nanyang Ship Engineering for a combined contract price of $71.4 million.
The transaction was finalised through two indirect subsidiaries, Jinmao Marine and Jinquan Marine, with each 64,500 DWT vessel priced at $35.7 million.
According to a company announcement, deliveries of the first and second vessels are scheduled to take place on or before August 31, 2029, and September 30, 2029, respectively.
