Oman's Asyad Shipping has taken delivery of the 85,000 DWT Kamsarmax bulk carrier Ain Al Sarooj, which has begun a one-year time charter.
Ain Al Sarooj is the first of two second-hand, 2023-built Kamsarmaxes bought by Asyad. The company said the vessel would begin generating revenue at once; it did not identify the charterer or disclose the rate.
Ain Al Thawarah, the second 85,000 DWT carrier, is due for delivery by the end of November. Asyad said it has secured a two-year time charter for the ship.
Asyad put the total purchase price at approximately OMR28 million ($72.8 million). The previous owner, Seacon Shipping reported a combined sale price of $72.7 million, or $36.35 million per vessel, when the transaction was announced in April.
Once both Kamsarmaxes have been delivered, Asyad expects its owned dry-bulk fleet to number 18 ships with a combined carrying capacity exceeding three million DWT.
Seacon identified the ships in its sale filing as Seacon Vancouver and Seacon Oslo. It had set delivery deadlines of October 10 and November 30, respectively.
