Singapore-based shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) took delivery of a new dual-fuel container vessel from Jiangnan Shipyard in China in a ceremony on Thursday, February 20.
Like earlier sisters Kota Eagle and Kota Emerald, Kota Ebony adopts a new design that incorporates features promoting efficiency and energy-saving capability.
The newbuild is the third in a series of vessels that feature an optimised hull form and high reefer capacities ideal for the Latin American trade.
They also incorporate various features such as high-performance anti-fouling coating to reduce fuel consumption, exhaust gas recirculation systems to cut-down on main engine methane emissions, and improved data connectivity to improve safety as well as operations efficiency.
Kota Ebony and its sisters are the largest vessels in the PIL fleet, with each ship having an LOA of 335 metres, a beam of 51 metres, and a capacity of 14,000 TEUs.
The ship is powered by a dual-fuel engine that will run mainly on LNG fed by IMO Mark III tanks that can also be used for storing ammonia.
