Brazilian Navy orders new anti-ship missiles for Tamandare-class frigates

The Brazilian Navy has selected SIATT, a smart weapons specialist partly owned by defence technology company the EDGE Group, for the supply of new MANSUP anti-ship missiles for integration on the Tamandare-class stealth frigates.

The EDGE Group and the Brazilian Navy had earlier entered into a strategic partnership agreement (SPA) to complete the full development of the missiles by the end of 2025.

Under the SPA, the EDGE Group and SIATT will provide the necessary resources to ensure the MANSUP missiles are delivered in time for integration on the frigates.

The agreement also provides the framework for the EDGE Group to utilise the MANSUP technology and technical data in the development of the MANSUP-ER (extended range) variant, which can strike targets up to 200 kilometres away.

Both the standard MANSUP and MANSUP-ER variants of the missiles are being developed to suit the operational requirements of the UAE Navy, the Brazilian Navy, and other potential overseas operators.
